Higher prices and improved freight terms are encouraging pine sawmills in Germany to increase exports to the U.S. and Asia, according to a report by German industry news service Euwid.
Shippers in northern and eastern Germany are showing increasing interest in returning to the U.S. with prices for SPF assortments at around US$340-350 per thousand board ft., the report said, and significant contracts have recently been signed with buyers in the U.S. and Asia.
Pine sawmills in the region are also reporting slightly better export sales opportunities in Europe due to cost advantages in transport and log procurement - with shipments to buyers in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Poland.
