Ukraine farmers have harvested 45.3 million tonnes of grain and more than 18 million tonnes of sugar beets in 2012, according to government data

MOSCOW , November 27, 2012 () – Farmers of Ukraine have harvested 45.3 million tonnes of grain and more than 18 million tonnes of sugar beet, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food said.

"Ukraine almost completed this year's harvesting operations, exclusive the gather of corn," the press service said quoting words of Ukrainian Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Nikolai Prisyazhnyuk, who also added, "Up to date, the republic garnered in 45.3 million tonnes of grain."

According to the ministry's estimates, Ukraine's corn harvest is expected to be at about 21 million tonnes.

The minister also pointed to the upward trends in the harvesting of sugar beet: its yield increased compared to the indicator of 2011 and made up 402 centners per hectare.

In addition, Ukrainian farmers gathered 2.3 million tonnes of soybeans, Prisyazhnyuk said.

Grain demand of Ukraine's domestic market is estimated at 28.7 million tonnes.
