International Paper Co. (IP) is considering moving its xpedx paper distribution facility in Olathe, near Kansas City, Missouri, to Edwardsville, another suburb of Kansas City, reported the Kansas City Business Journal on Aug. 14.
As part of the move, Loveland, Ohio-based xpedx would build a 280,000-square-foot distribution facility that would include 30,000 square feet of office space. The total estimated cost is US$11.9 million.
The final decision on the project has not yet been made, said an xpedx spokesperson on Aug. 8. The preferred location is in Edwardsville, she said, the Kansas City Business Journal reported.
Moving the distribution operation from Olathe, which now employs 180 people, would take place in the summer of 2013.
To support the project, industrial revenue bonds and sales tax exemptions on construction materials were approved by the Edwardsville City Council on Aug. 13, reported the Kansas City Business Journal.
IP’s head office is in Memphis, Tennessee.
