Northwoods Paper Converting Inc. has opened up a new sheeter plant in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, and has plans to expand further at that location, according to a company executive, reported Keystone Edge on May 3.
The Wisconsin-based company has spent US$8 million to acquire and remodel the 250,000-square-foot plant, which is up and running with two sheeters.
Plans call for further growth as only about half the space is currently occupied, said Northwoods President Chad Abel. The expansion would include more production lines, warehousing and distribution, he said, Keystone Edge reported.
The company expects its new plant to be running 24 hours a day and seven days a week by this summer. Currently, the operation employs 25 people, but there are plans to increase the workforce to 80 in the next few years.
Incentives that included state loans, grants and tax credits were provided to the company through the Governor’s Action Team’s coordinated efforts, reported Keystone Edge.
The East Stroudsburg plant is Northwoods’ first expansion. The company has been operating solely in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, for 12 years.
After looking at other possible locations, the company chose East Stroudsburg because it was relatively close to such eastern cities as New York, Washington and Philadelphia, as well as to major airports, said Abel, Keystone Edge reported.
