LOS ANGELES , May 7, 2012 () – The heirs of Richard Ritchie, the man who developed the formula for Pepsi-Cola in 1931, filed a lawsuit against PepsiCo Inc., saying they wanted to make it clear that Ritchie’s documents were theirs to share with film producers, collectors and historians, Reuters reported May 4.

Ritchie’s children, Joan Ritchie Silleck and Robert Ritchie, said they wanted to tell their father’s life story without the threat of litigation from PepsiCo. A company spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.

The lawsuit asks the court for undisclosed damages for what it calls PepsiCo’s improper interference with rights to Richard Ritchie’s invention and documents.
