LOS ANGELES , April 9, 2012 () – Paper Excellence NV’s Prince Albert Pulp Mill in Saskatchewan is on schedule to start up its new 10-megawatt cogeneration power plant by May 15, says the mill manager, reported News Talk 650 CKOM on April 9.

If all goes well, the plant will “synchronize” with the Saskatchewan Power Corp.’s (SaskPower) grid by May 27, said Dave Patterson, mill general manager.

Power from the plant will be sold to SaskPower, he said.

The cogeneration facility will primarily power the mill and any excess will be provided to SaskPower, according to a Jan. 18 report in The Prince Albert Daily Herald that was carried on IndustryIntel.com on Jan. 19.

Meanwhile, a project to convert the mill to dissolving pulp production is expected to be completed in third-quarter 2013, said Patterson, News Talk 650 CKOM reported.

Currently, technical work is under way on that project to “ensure that the right equipment will be installed,” he said.

The cogeneration plant, which employs 45 people, will be in testing mode for a few weeks after its initial startup in mid-May, said Patterson, reported News Talk 650 CKOM.

Paper Excellence is a unit of Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group.
