Softwood bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) producer Winstone Pulp International Ltd. in New Zealand is informing customers in Asia of a February US$20 per tonne increase.
“Support for the price increase is based on strong demand and low producer stocks in particular for Softwood and/or High Bulk HYP pulps,” the company said.
Winstone, which produces more than 160,000 tonnes/year of radiata pine BCTMP at its Karioi mill, did not specify its new prices.
But last week West Fraser Timber Co. announced a $20/tonne February increase for 75 bright softwood BCTMP for Asia, which will raise its list price in China to $550/tonne.
Market pulp consultant Brian McClay showed the December price of 75 bright softwood BCTMP as $520/tonne in his recent Market Pulp Monthly report, so the $530/tonne price for January would indicate that the market has moved up $10/tonne.
