A major northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp producer is said to be planning a US$20 per tonne price decrease for the U.S., to $870/tonne, for January shipments.
This would be the first NBSK move for North America in January.
NBSK producers reduced December pricing in North America by $30/tonne.
Several NBSK producers have announced price increases for Europe for January, to $850/tonne. The RISI Inc. price in Europe for December was $825/tonne, down $35/tonne.
Some North American buyers have been complaining about the widening price gap between the two regions. An $870/tonne price in North America would close the gap to $20/tonne.
