Fletcher Building appoints Kate Spargo to board as independent director, effective March 1, 2012

AUCKLAND, New Zealand , December 8, 2011 (press release) – The Chairman of Fletcher Building Limited, Mr Ralph Waters, today announced the appointment of Kate Spargo to the boards of Fletcher Building and its listed issuer of capital notes, Fletcher Building Industries Limited.

Kate Spargo will be an independent director and the appointment will be effective from 1 March 2012.

Kate Spargo is a resident of Melbourne, and has extensive business experience from advisory roles on strategic and governance issues following a career in legal practice in both the public and private sectors. She has a number of non-executive directorships, including ASX listed companies, UGL Limited and Sonic Healthcare Limited, and of SMEC Limited, Pacific Hydro Pty Limited, and Investec Bank (Australia) Limited. She also serves as a director on a number of "not for profit" businesses.

Kate Spargo is currently the Chair of the Australian Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board and is a member of the International Ethics Standards Boards for Accountants. She has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Adelaide, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mr Waters welcomed Kate to the board in the new year, and noted that she will bring a breadth of business experience, and a legal and governance focus, to board considerations.
