• The WorldStar Awards are presented by the World Packaging Organization and are considered the highest global recognition in the field of packaging.
• The competition saw a shortlist of 243 entries from 35 countries and the award will be presented in June, 2012, at the WorldStar Award Ceremony in Split, Croatia.
• This is Manjushree’s second year of success at WorldStar after winning previously in 2008 for the ‘Quaker Oats’ Jar and the ‘Rhodes’ Peaches Multilayer Jar.

Bangalore based plastic packaging major, Manjushree Technopack Ltd has won the prestigious ‘WorldStar Award’ 2011 for two of its packaging designs. Manjushree has won this recognition for the design for Unilever’s Kissan’s ‘Squeezo’ ketchup bottle and Cadbury-Kraft’s ‘Bubbaloo’ jar. Instituted by the World Packaging Organization, the awards are widely considered to be the highest recognition of packaging excellence in the world. This takes Manjushree’s total tally of WorldStar awards to four, with two of their designs receiving WorldStars in 2008. These awards are given by the World Packaging Organization (WPO), in its effort to recognize excellence in packaging solutions and to encourage advancement in the state of packaging art.

WorldStars are presented to those packaging solutions which have already won recognition in their respective national competitions. These solutions are then compared to similar packages from around the world, by an expert panel of judges. Manjushree qualified to enter the WorldStar nominations after it won the India-Star Awards, a national recognition for packaging excellence instituted by the Indian Institute of Packaging.

Mr. Vimal Kedia, Managing Director, Manjushree Technopack said, “The WorldStar Awards are recognition of our ability to go beyond the norm for our clients and develop packaging solutions which are truly innovative and amongst the best in the world. Today, the end customer is paying a lot of attention to packaging as it directly affects product quality and usability. It is therefore important for packaging companies to respond to consumers’ needs by coming up with solutions that are practical, attractive and adhere to the highest quality standards. We are excited and proud to receive these awards and look forward to receiving more of these in the years to come.”

Manjushree has won both the awards under the ‘Food Packaging Design’ category. The Cadbury’s Bubbaloo Jar has been recognized for its functionality and unique shape that makes it attractive to children, who are the key target audience. The cap of the jar has been designed in a way so as to provide for a firm grip while opening. The jar also solves the common problem of chewing gums at the bottom getting squished due to the weight of chewing gums at the top of the jar. The 2-dome concept of the jar not only makes it look attractive but also ensures that the load of the top layer of chewing gums do not interfere with bottom layer.

The Kissan Squeezo bottle has been recognized for its inverted design which makes it convenient to pour ketchup with just a gentle squeeze. The bottle has been made using the multilayer extrusion technology and has a barrier layer of EVOH which cuts off entry of oxygen in to the bottle thereby keeping the flavour and aroma of the ketchup intact. Manjushree was the first company to introduce this technology in India. Also, the bottle’s flip-open is cap designed to have a silicon valve that cuts off ketchup flow when the bottle isn't being squeezed.

The WorldStar awards will be presented in June, 2012 in Split, Croatia. Manjushree has previously won WorldStar Awards in 2008 for the ‘Rhodes’ Peaches Multilayer Jar and the ‘Quaker Oats’ Jar (an award that it shared with PepsiCo India).
