Procter & Gamble Co., along with other consumer product manufacturers, are expecting consumers to give such items as deodorants, disposable razors, shampoos and moisturizers in gift box sets for Christmas gifts, The Wall Street Journal reported Nov. 23.
The consumer products are considered accessible luxuries since they have been selling for higher prices in recent years, according to the publication.
Product manufacturers and retailers saw strong sales last year in gift sets and plan on offering more varieties for less, including more options in personal care items, including shampoo and toothpaste, in hopes of getting consumers to try more of their brands.
Barret Roberts, Axe senior brand manager at Unilever PLC, said, if a consumer likes the scent of Axe deodorant, why wouldn’t they “like body wash and hair” products in the same scent?”
Unilever this year has added its Axe brand to its gift sets this year to complement its Dove brand gift set offering.
And for the first time this year, P&G is offering premium hair care products in gift sets, bringing its offering to about 24 gift sets this year, The Wall Street Journal reported.
