University of Minnesota to commission its new Eolos Wind Research Station on Oct. 25 at UMore Park property in Rosemount, Minnesota

On Tuesday, October 25, 2011 a public commissioning ceremony will be held at the University of Minnesota's UMore Park property for the new Eolos Wind Research Station. Following the commissioning of the research station, guests will be invited to take a walking tour of the facilities, including the new 80 meter tall wind turbine, and meet university and industry research partners. A range of exhibits on university research, UMore Park initiatives, local community and technical college opportunities in renewable energy careers, and state-of-the art research technology will be on display.

Where: UMore Park, Rosemount Minnesota

Directions: The Wind Energy Research Station is located 25 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul in Rosemount, Minnesota. Click here for a Google map of the research station.

From Interstate 94 in downtown St. Paul, take U.S. Highway 52 south (exit 242D) to County Road 42. Take a right (head east) on County Road 42. After one mile, turn left (south) on Blaine Avenue. Signs on Blaine Avenue will direct you where to park for the Wind Research Station Commissioning Event.

From Interstate 35, take the County Road 42 exit and head west. Continue on County Road 42 for 11.5 miles. Turn right (south) on Blaine Avenue. Signs on Blaine Avenue will direct you where to park for the Wind Research Station Commissioning Event.

Parking: Parking signs on Blaine Avenue will direct you where to park.

Event Schedule:

1:45-2:30 – General Seating
2:30-3:00 – Commissioning Ceremony
3:00-4:30 – Public walking tour of research site, wind turbine, research displays and activities

Other Information:

Please wear clothing appropriate for late October weather such as warm hats, coats or rain gear. The public tour will involve walking across the research site. Please wear appropriate outdoor footwear.
