J Sainsbury Plc plans to match prices on 13,000 goods to those of competitors Tesco Plc and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s Asda, the Sunday Times reported, citing anonymous sources, Bloomberg reported Oct. 9.
Sainsbury will pay consumers coupons worth the price difference from products at other retailers, the newspaper reported.
Tesco announced Sept. 22 that it would lower prices on 3,000 items in an effort to help financially pressured customers and to regain market share.
