South Africa's largest labor federation planning demonstrations against Wal-Mart Stores' takeover of Massmart Holdings, citing job-loss concerns

LOS ANGELES , October 10, 2011 (Industry Intelligence) – South Africa's largest labor federation, The Congress of South African Trade Unions, is planning protests against Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s takeover of Massmart Holdings Ltd., Bloomberg reported Oct. 10.

The group will use sit-ins and pickets to "highlight and educate South Africans" about the job losses the deal will bring about, said the federation's general secretary.

The federation also said it supported the actions of three South African government ministers who have asked the country's Competition Tribunal to review the retail giant's purchase of Massmart.
