LOS ANGELES , October 7, 2011 () – The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has been awarded a two-year, US$1 million grant by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to strengthen its capacity to respond to foodborne outbreaks and other food safety events, The Echo Press reported Oct. 4.

The grant will fund a number of new activities of the MDA’s Food Protection Rapid Response Team, including efforts to develop guidelines that would be shared with other government food safety organizations.

The grant was awarded late last month and provides the MDA with $500,000 in each of the next two federal fiscal years.
