Design of the Times competition recognizes Great Northern for its IMS/Gatorade floor display, Kleenex Hand Towels carton, Nintendo Punch-Out!! floor stand and other products

– Great Northern Corporation's Consumer Packaging & Display won the platinum award for best in show in the drugstore category, as well as seven gold awards and a bronze award in this year's Design of the Times competition.
Hundreds of entries were judged on their abilities to command attention, connect with the shopper, convey information and close the sale. Winners were announced Oct. 6, 2010, at the Shopper Marketing Expo in Chicago.
After receiving a gold award in its category, Great Northern's floor display for IMS/Gatorade® won the platinum award for drugstore displays. The display merchandises Gatorade's three-step system of energy and hydration products. A dramatic full-body image of Usain Bolt, Olympic gold medalist, is used as a billboard graphic along the side of the display. The three stark-white shelves that extend beyond the display invite shopper interaction.
In addition to the IMS/Gatorade floor display, other Great Northern entries that earned gold awards in this year's Design of the Times competition included:
Kleenex® Hand Towels Carton, mass merchants category, with a stylish package that delivers 60 single-use paper hand towels in a paperboard dispenser. The dispenser's unique design allows it to sit on either a towel bar or a counter. Great Northern won the National Paperboard Packaging Competition Innovation Award this spring for its work on this package.
Kaytee® nature's BENEFITS® Daily Diet, recreational stores/pets category, for a package with high-impact graphics on a natural kraft surface that reflects the wholesome all-natural ingredients in the new pet food line.
Mattel® TS3 EC Half Pallet, mass merchants category, for a display that leverages the popular Toy Story 3 movie and features a unique multi-plane header and larger-than-life character imagery.
Nintendo® Game Stop® Hanging Sign, consumer electronics / entertainment category, with a display promoting the national launch of the gaming device and designed to prominently stand out in Game Stop retail stores.
Nintendo® Punch-Out!!™ Floor Stand, consumer electronics / entertainment category, for a display that features a die-cut figure of the iconic game character, Little Mac. The figure is suspended away from the display to permit airflow motion and create three-dimensional appeal.
SC Johnson Raid Max® Bug Barrier 27 ct. Quarter Pallet, home center and hardware store category, for a display that features the iconic Raid bug, a three-dimensional header and the Raid yellow to reinforce branding.
Winning a bronze award was Great Northern's file cabinet/shipper for 3M. The Back-to-School Label Quarter Pallet display provides a store-within-a-store experience with 3M Post-it™ Notes and Permanent Labels brands and a three-sided shoppable file cabinet structure display, designed for Office Depot®.
