With a record number of registrants, TAPPI’s PaperCon 2010 (PaperCon) reflects increased optimism and market improvements throughout the pulp and paper industry. Over one thousand industry professionals are planning to attend the three-day event. It includes technical sessions, keynote speakers, special events, exhibits and networking opportunities. Current year registration represents a 40 percent increase over 2009 attendance.
Two important keynote speakers have played a role in PaperCon’s record crowd. Jim Hanna, Director of Environmental Impact for Starbucks Coffee, will kick off the conference on Sunday, May 2 with an overview of Starbucks’ efforts to reduce its environmental footprint through energy and water conservation, recycling and green construction. Of particular importance to PaperCon attendees is Starbucks’ aim to achieve recyclability or compostability of their cups. Also, Nina B. Link, President and CEO of the Magazine Publishers of America will explore the disruption and transformation of the magazine industry brought about by technology and changing consumer and advertising demands. In addition, PaperCon’s Sustainability Forum and Showcase explores “The Science Behind Sustainability”. It also features an impressive line-up of experts from thought-leading companies and organizations like MWV, Colgate, GreenBlue and NewPage to name a few.
PaperCon’s Trade Fair will include over 75 companies like Metso, Kemira and EKA Chemicals providing technology, sustainability and maintenance solutions to attendees. This complements PaperCon’s unmatched program of peer-selected and peer-reviewed presentations organized by TAPPI and PIMA.
