RIVES, France , October 20, 2008 (press release) – India’s leading cigarette paper producer, the ITC group, put its trust in ALLIMAND to provide the group with its know-how in both the study and rebuild of technical paper machines.

After an assessment was carried out in 2006 on the PM1 of the Tribeni production unit located in North Calcutta, the ITC Indian conglomerate ordered from ALLIMAND a basic engineering study concentrating on the optimisation and stabilisation of the production processes of the stock and the approach flow feeding system of the head box.
The order included replacing the refiners of the long fibre line and finishing refiner of the machine, supplying the deflakers and replacing the cyclonic cleaners system.

With regards to paper machines, ALLIMAND delivered an FP air cushioned head box along with a winder, while also upgrading the wire part (drainage components, dandy roll), and on the press section (new suction press, new loading systems, optimisation of the sheet run).

All these modifications came under a global modernisation project of the PM1 line; ITC using this machine shut down to its advantage to modify the vacuum installation and to install a new centralised command system.

After a 4 week shut down in June 2008, the 3200mm wire width machine was started up at its contracted production speed, producing plug wrap paper enabling a general adjustment phase to be carried out and optimisation of the paper making parameters (formation, porosity…).
The transfer to cigarette paper then took place without hold-up and the benefits of the newly installed equipment were clearly evident from the very first reels produced; stable refining, improved formation by the new FP head box and controlled drainage drastically reducing the faults at the winding stage.

Here’s hoping that this collaboration between ALLIMAND and the ITC group, Indian industrial conglomerate of utmost importance and major actor in the numerous paper grades in different factories, is only just the beginning.
