Montana's Flathead National Forest invites proposals for projects eligible for Secure Rural Schools program funding by Aug. 15, encourages projects that contribute to forest health, provide economic benefit to community

The Flathead County Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) is currently requesting project proposals for possible funding from federal grant dollars through title II of the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program in anticipation of renewed funding for 2014. Proposals are due by August 15, 2014. Funds may be used for projects on federal and non-federal lands that benefit National Forest System lands. Approximately half of the funding will be granted to road, trail, and watershed projects.
Project forms are available from the Flathead County RAC Web site. Completed applications should be submitted directly to this site. Questions and assistance with submitting forms can be obtained from Wade Muehlhof at 406-758-5252 or you can email your request to ewmuehlhof@fs.fed.us.
Applicants are encouraged to propose projects that provide economic benefit to the community, create partnerships, have public visibility and contribute to overall forest health, visitor enjoyment and educational value of public lands.

The Flathead County Resource Advisory Committee was chartered in 2001 by the US Department of Agriculture under the Federal Advisory Committee Act. The local committee is comprised of fifteen community members, representing outdoor recreation, commercial timber industry, environmental organizations, school officials and local elected officials.
