United States Patent no. 8,748,690, issued on June 10, was assigned to SCA Hygiene Products AB (Goteborg, Sweden).
"Absorbent articles comprising acidic cellulosic fibers and an organic zinc salt" was invented by Jan Wastlund-Karlsson (Molndal, Sweden), Jan Petrusson (Goteborg, Sweden), Madeleine Pehrson (Molnlycke, Sweden), sa Lindstrom (Goteborg, Sweden) and Linus Fredlinger (Kungsbacka, Sweden).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An absorbent article, such as a diaper, panty diaper, sanitary napkin or incontinence device includes a liquid-permeable topsheet, a backsheet and an absorbent core enclosed between the liquid-permeable topsheet and the backsheet. The absorbent core includes acidic fluff pulp having a pH of 5.5 or less and an organic zinc salt, in particular zinc ricinoleate. The combination of organic zinc salt and acidic fluff pulp exerts a synergetic effect in the suppression of ammonia."
The patent was filed on Nov. 17, 2006, under Application No. 12/514,942.
