WASHINGTON , April 14, 2014 (press release) – The U.S. Census Bureau announced today that advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for March, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $433.9 billion, an increase of 1.1 percent (±0.5%) from the previous month, and 3.8 percent (±0.7%) above March 2013. Total sales for the January 2014 through March 2014 period were up 2.5 percent (±0.4%) from the same period a year ago. The January 2014 to February 2014 percent change was revised from +0.3 percent (±0.5%)* to +0.7 percent (±0.2%).

Retail trade sales were up 1.1 percent (±0.5%) from February 2014, and 3.7 percent (±0.7%) above last year. Auto and other motor vehicle dealers were up 9.5 percent (±3.2%) from March 2013 and nonstore retailers were up 7.8 percent (±2.5%) from last year.
