Brazilian electricity sector regulator Aneel authorised the commercial operation of a 127.4-MW biomass unit of local pulp and paper producer Suzano Papel e Celulose as of Friday.
The permit was granted for Unit 1 of the Suzano Maranhao biomass thermal plant, according to a decree published in the state gazette last week.
The plant consists of two units with a combined capacity of 254.8 MW in Imperatriz municipality, in the northeastern Maranhao state.
Two months ago Aneel allowed Suzano Papel e Celulose to build and operate a 53.5-MW biomass plant as an independent power producer (IPP) in Limeira municipality, Sao Paulo state. The authorisation is valid for 30 years.
