PHONING your local pizza joint for a takeaway is so yesterday. Australia’s largest pizza chain reports that almost two out of every three sales now result from digital orders. The online surge helped drive a near 30 per cent jump in profit for Domino’s Pizza in the six months to December 29.
Domino’s Pizza chief executive Don Meij yesterday said digital sales now accounted for almost 60 per cent of its Australian sales. And more than half of those online sales are from mobile devices.
He also said Domino’s supplied about a quarter of all take-home pizza in Australia and had about a 50 per cent share of the market for pizza from chain stores.
Domino’s shares surged after it said net profit for the six months to the end of December rose almost 30 per cent to $18.6 million and unveiled an ambitious global growth plan.
Mr Meij also said the company planned to spend more than $10 million in Australia and New Zealand and $15 million globally on new technology platforms to further boost online sales and marketing
