Resolute Forest Products Inc. has announced bleached kraft pulp price increases in North America, effective Jan. 1, according to buyer information.
Its new prices will be US$1,010/tonne for northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) and $970/tonne for southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK), and $870/tonne for northern bleached hardwood kraft (NBHK) and southern bleached hardwood kraft (SBHK).
Resolute didn’t specify the amounts of the increases in its notice, but the NBSK and SBSK prices are up $20 from the previous list price and the NBHK/SBHK prices are up $10/tonne from the $860/tonne that has been the market price in recent months for NBHK, SBHK, and bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp (BEKP).
This is the first known announcement for Jan. 1 for North America by a domestic producer.
BEKP producer Fibria Celulose SA of Brazil has previously announced a Jan. 1 price of $870/tonne for North America and it is also raising its prices in other major markets, to $820/tonne in Europe and $720/tonne in China.
Montréal-based Resolute produces approximately 1.7 million tonnes/year of market pulp at its eight facilities in North America.
Resolute is one of only a few North American producers of all four major paper-grade pulps: NBSK, SBSK, NBHK, and SBHK. Also it produces recycled kraft pulp (RKP). It produces fluff pulp in Coosa Pines, Alabama.
On Sept. 27, Resolute announced plans to increase its domestic price of Super Brite uncoated groundwood papers by $40/ton, effective with shipments on or after Nov. 1.
