United States Patent no. 8,558,081, issued on Oct. 15, was assigned to Pioneer Hi Bred International Inc (Johnston, Iowa).
"Maize variety inbred PH1C91" was invented by Charles Thomas Cunnyngham (Tipton, Ind.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A novel maize variety designated PH1C91 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof. Methods for producing a maize plant that comprise crossing maize variety PH1C91 with another maize plant. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into PH1C91 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. Hybrid maize seed, plant or plant part produced by crossing the variety PH1C91 or a locus conversion of PH1C91 with another maize variety."
The patent was filed on March 9, 2011, under Application No. 13/043,583.
