Jamison Scott, chairman of the Wood Machinery Manufacturer of America's (WMMA) Combustible Dust Task Force, is to head a session on combustible dust at the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo, according to a report by the Woodworking Network. The event in Toronto runs from Oct. 24 to 26.
The monitoring and control of combustible dust is under the scrutiny of governments and safety authorities following two fatal explosions and fires at sawmills in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 2012. In the U.S., the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is developing an industrial combustible dust rule.
Scott's free 45-minute session on Oct. 25 entitled "Combustible Dust ... An Explosive Issue," will define combustible dust and offer tips on government safety inspections and how to prevent explosions.
Scott, VP of Air Handling Systems in Woodbridge, Connecticut , is the author of several articles on the subject which have appeared in industry publications, including his recent article: "ComDust Prevention: Woodshops Take Note."
The primary source of this article is the Woodworking Network, Lincolnshire, Illinois, on Sept. 8, 2013.
