A judge has ordered Monster Beverage Corp. to mediation on Nov. 26 in a wrongful death lawsuit that alleges the company's energy drinks were responsible for a teenager's death, CNBC News reported May 31.
The parents of 14-year-old Anais Fournier are suing the company after the girl died following consumption of two of the company's drinks within 24 hours in the fall of 2012.
Fournier died of "cardiac arrhythmia due to caffeine toxicity," according to the coroner's report. The girl also, however, had an existing heart problem, but not one that was severe enough for doctors to limit her activities or to warn her away from caffeine.
Monster declined to comment on the judge's ruling.
