Brazil's primary aluminum output down 3.6% year-over-year to 120,000 tonnes in October, industry group says; production up 0.9% to 1.21 million tonnes during first 10 months of 2012

SANTIAGO, Chile , November 29, 2012 (BNamericas) – Brazil's primary aluminum output in October was 120,000t, a 3.6% drop year-on-year, according to national aluminum association Abal.

Production reached 1.21Mt in the first ten months of 2012, up 0.9% compared with the year-ago period.

Output at CBA, part of local conglomerate Votorantim, increased 3.8% to 38,200t in September and 14% to 381,500t in January- October.

However, US-based Alcoa's (NYSE: AA) output decreased 9.6% to 30,200t in October and 5.8% to 292,300t in the first ten months.

BHP Billiton's (NYSE: BHP) output was 15,200t in October, down 13.8% year-on-year. Production during the first ten months of 2012 declined 8% to 146,700t.

Albras saw production fall 3.4% to 38,700t in October, and 1.9% to 382,500t in January-October.

Novelis' (NYSE: NVL) output increased 11.1% to 3,600t in October, but declined 1.5% to 39,600t in the year's first ten months.
