Clariant International Ltd. announced that it will invest 38 million zloty (US$11.1 million) to build a 4,000 tonnes/year masterbatch production plant in Konstantynów Łódzki, Poland, reported European Plastics News on July 13.
The Swiss specialty chemical company plans on shifting production from an existing plant operated by its subsidiary Colex Spółka z o.o. in Zgierz, Poland, to the new plant in early 2014. Clariant acquired a 100% stake in Colex in September 2011.
Clariant is focusing on growth opportunities in Central and Eastern European markets, said Markus Mirgeler, a company spokesperson. Over the past few years, Colex’s growth has been “outstanding,” he said, European Plastics New reported.
The new plant will be built on a 16,000-square-meter (172,224 square feet) site in the Łódzka Special Economic Zone, and is expected to create more than 90 new jobs.
Colex, established in May 1991, makes masterbatches for applications that include polyethylene, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinyl chloride, polyoxymethylene, ethylene vinyl acetate, styrene acrylonitrile and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene.
The company, based in Zgierz, is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified, reported European Plastics News.
