Florelle Tissue Corp. might reopen the former Brownville Specialty Paper Products Inc. mill in Brownville, New York, in a few months, said an official at a local employment agency, reported YNN-TV on Jan. 25.
Cheryl Mayforth, executive director of the WorkPlace in Jefferson County, said she had heard the mill could open late this summer. WorkPlace has been asked by Florelle to begin gathering applications in a few weeks, she said.
Although the company has not yet started advertising the 55 floor jobs that will need to be filled, it will shortly, said Mayforth, who expects that the hiring process will reach full steam by mid-February, YNN-TV reported.
WorkPlace will collect the job applications during “a certain period of time” and then turn them over to Florelle to review and select those who will be interviewed, said Mayforth, noting that some people have already applied.
The mill has been idle for nearly three years, said Mayforth.
Florelle, a Canadian company that makes paper towels, napkins and tissues, had pledged to spend millions on upgrading the mill and was previously slated to restart it early 2011, reported YNN-TV.
