European woodfree printing and writing paper shipments fall by 4.9% in November from year ago to 1.246 million tonnes; year-to-date total down by 3.8%: CEPIFINE

European woodfree printing and writing papermakers shipped 1.246 million tonnes in November, down 4.9% from a year ago, according to statistics released by trade association CEPIFINE in Brussels.
Continuing a trend, the November drops occurred in both coated woodfree (CWF) and uncoated woodfree (UWF) papers. The year-over-year percentages have decreasing each month since April.
Papermakers delivered 1.013 million tonnes of CWF and UFW to Europe in November, for a 4.0% decrease from November 2010. Shipments to outside of Europe of 233,000 tonnes fell by 8.6%. The estimated November European demand of 1.047 million tonnes decreased by 5.2%.
From January through November of 2011, shipments of woodfree printing and writing papers grew to 14.033 million tonnes, down 3.8% compared to the year-ago period. Deliveries to Europe reached 11.209 million tonnes, falling by 4.2%. Exports of 2.824 million tonnes were down by 1.7%. The estimated European demand was 11.587 million tonnes, for a 6.5% decrease from November 2010.
November 2011 shipments of CWF paper totaled 633,000 tonnes, down 4.2% from November 2010. UWF paper shipments of 613,000 tonnes dropped by 5.5%. The CWF total for the first 11 months of 2011 was 6.984 million tonnes, 4.8% lower than the year-ago period, and the UWF total was 7.049 million tonnes, for a 2.7% decrease.
The November-over-November CWF shipments to Europe of 515,000 tonnes dropped by 2.8%. Exports were 118,000 tonnes, down 9.9%. The estimated European CWF demand of 524,000 tonnes dropped by 3.9% from a year earlier.
For the first 11 months of 2011, CWF shipments to Europe of 5.410 million tonnes decreased by 3.9%, and deliveries to outside of Europe of 1.574 million tonnes fell by 7.8%, which was the fourth straight month of drops. The estimated European demand of 5.492 million tonnes decreased by 6.8%.
The November-over-November UWF domestic deliveries of 498,000 tonnes fell by 5.1%. Exports of 115,000 tonnes were down 7.3%. The estimated UWF European demand of 523,000 tonnes decreased by 6.6%.
From January through November, shipments of UWF to Europe grew to 5.799 million tonnes, decreasing by 4.6% from the year-ago period. However, deliveries to outside of Europe of 1.250 million tonnes were up by 7.4%. The estimated European demand for UWF of 6.095 million tonnes decreased by 6.3% from the first 11 months of 2010.
