Nail products have been the fastest-growing segment in the color cosmetics market and have jumped by 59% among U.S. consumers between January and October of 2011, the New York Daily News reported Dec. 13, citing a report by The NPD Group.
According to Bernd Beetz of beauty and fragrance manufacturer Coty, the “nail category is now surpassing lipstick,” the New York Daily News reported.
Celebrities endorsing non-traditional nail polish colors have helped influence consumers. An increase in the popularity of male manicures this year has also helped the nail polish segment.
The industry is expected to maintain its momentum in 2012, with anticipated nail polish releases from hip-hop star Nicki Minaj and a nail polish collection inspired by the soon-to-be-released Hunger Games movie, according to the publication.
