The demand for polyethylene in the Brazilian domestic market increased 8% month-over-month in November, Platts reported Dec. 5, citing a source from Brazil’s Braskem SA.
A company source told Platts that the increase has more to do with October being an atypically slow month because of September stockpiling amid currency concerns.
Braskem’s offers for December PE to the Brazilian market were flat from November at 4,200 reais per tonne free on truck (including import fees, duties) for high-density PE blow molding, and 2,250/tonne reais FOT for film and injection.
Braskem’s offers for low-density PE film were at 4,460/tonne reais FOT and 4,200/tonne reais FOT for LLDPE butene.
The company is considering increasing prices for the second half of December if the U.S. dollar remains strong, the source told Platts.
