Salt River Project sets goal to generate 20% of power through renewable energy, conservation by 2020, but critics say goal falls short as Arizona requires public utilities to have 15% renewable energy by 2025, cut power use 22% by 2020

The board that controls Salt River Project has approved a goal of generating 20 percent of its power from alternative sources by 2020.
Critics say it's not good enough and that SRP should be held to the same conditions as Arizona Public Service Co. and Tucson Electric Power Co.
The Arizona Republic reports the publicly-owned Arizona utilities must get 15 percent of their energy from alternative sources by 2025 while additionally reducing their usage through conservation by 22 percent in 2020.
SRP officials say they are combining renewable energy and conservation into a single "sustainability" goal.
