Federal officials have released hundreds of documents, photographs and audio recordings of a deadly 2009 freight train derailment and explosion in northern Illinois.
The thousands of pages detail the fact-finding portion of the federal investigation. But National Transportation Safety Board officials it'll still be weeks or months before a ruling is made on the accident.
In June 2009, several tank cars on a Canadian National Railway train derailed and exploded on the edge of Rockford, killing one woman. The state Environmental Protection Agency claims up to 75,000 gallons of ethanol leaked into the ground and a nearby creek. Canadian National later agreed to pay $25,000 for environmental testing
The Rockford Register Star reports the documents were made public late last month.
A Canadian National spokesman has declined to comment.
