Vogue Veteran Returns to Oversee Creative Strategy Across all Platforms

Vogue today announced that Raul Martinez will serve as the title’s new global creative director. The appointment marks Martinez’s return to Vogue from Victoria’s Secret and Co., where he held the role of head creative director since 2021. His appointment is effective on February 5th, and he will report directly to Anna Wintour, global editorial director of Vogue and chief content officer of Condé Nast.

In his new role, Martinez will oversee creative direction for the title globally and help guide Vogue’s visual approach on all platforms. He will also play a key role in supporting Vogue’s video efforts, ensuring video is seamlessly embedded across all storytelling, including short form and social clips, news-driven reels, and longer features.

Martinez first joined Vogue as an associate art director in 1988 and left the publication in 1996 to co-found AR New York, a creative and branding agency that created campaigns for Valentino, Calvin Klein, YSL, and more. He returned to Vogue in 2009 and was named Condé Nast’s chief creative officer in 2015, where he shaped the creative focus of the company. Martinez has also received a National Magazine Award for photography.

“Raul knows Vogue inside and out, and is not only a brilliant, creative thinker, but a great leader and wonderful colleague,” said Wintour. “I know I speak for the entire team when I say I am so thrilled to have him back.”

“Vogue has always been a home for showcasing new voices and talent. One of the things I am most excited about is using our platform to introduce up-and-coming creatives to the world, as well as to mentor young artists,” said Martinez. “I also look forward to imagining new ways to tell stories – whether in-book, on social, digital, or video. And, of course, I am so excited to be returning to Condé Nast and to once again partner with Anna.”
