Bojagicard began business in 2002. Based in Seoul, South Korea, the company was the brainchild of Lee Wang-soo and was created with the intention of providing unique and personalised wedding invitations to consumers across South Korea, marketed and ordered directly through the company’s comprehensive website.

In this short customer interview Marcus Greenbrook, GEW’s Director of International Sales, speaks to Lee Wang-soo about his decision to press forward with a UV LED retrofit on an older, reconditioned Ryobi press.

Marcus Greenbrook (MG): Please describe your role in the company and your company’s activities.

Lee Wang-soo (LW): “I am the founder and CEO of the business, and I have a small team of employees working with me at the factory here in Seoul. Our business is built on the design and production of unique and personalised printed wedding invitations, which is a thriving market in Korea despite the gradual digitisation that is taking place.

L to R: GEW’s Marcus Greenbrook with Charlie Han of PM Trading, Mr. Lee, CEO of Bojagicard, and Mr. Sun of PM Trading.

When we started our business, all of our printing was outsourced. However, about two years ago we decided to bring production in-house to give us more control over the processes and the financial aspect of our work.

This led to us invest in a reconditioned Ryobi 750 Wide press, which was equipped with an Eltosch UV arc system. A few months ago, we replaced the inherited system with a 385nm, 80cm wide, 3-lamp LeoLED curing system from GEW. One lamp is mounted after the first print unit, with two lamps mounted in the delivery position.”

MG: What applications is the GEW LED curing system being used for?

LW: “The LED system is being used for our core business of wedding invitations, with a focus on printing on heavier substrates such as card. We also produce greeting cards using this same process.”

MG: What benefits has the new LED system brought to your business?

The Ryobi 750 press has a 3-lamp LeoLED curing system, with two lamps mounted in the delivery position.

LW: “The GEW system is much more reliable than the original UV system we had, and this has really improved our productivity. It also means less wastage in particular, less reprints and a better product, which means that our staff and our customers are happier overall.

Added to this, we see the benefit of reduced electricity usage through the far more efficient, more up-to-date GEW LED modules. Furthermore, the maintenance of the LED lampheads is very simple, an occasional cleaning of the glass windows is all that is required.”

MG: What can you do now, that you could not do before you had the UV system?

The third UV LED lamphead can be positioned after the first print unit, or can be used in the delivery.

LW: “It’s not so much about new opportunities, as we were already running UV. It’s about running the same product, but with increased productivity to ensure we’re maximising our profits.

Having said that, in the future we have the option to run with UV LED coating and opaque white with the moveable lamphead. This could open up whole new markets for us if we choose to pursue them, and we have the capacity.”

MG: What would you say to anyone considering purchasing a UV LED system?

LW: “In simple terms, I strongly recommend that anyone considering UV LED should look at a GEW system. The system works extremely well and we are 100% satisfied with ours.”

MG: Please describe your overall experience with the GEW sales and installation teams.

Bojagicard produce a wide range of highly decorative greeting cards and wedding invitations.

LW: “I can’t speak highly enough of GEW throughout the whole process. From the very beginning, when we were talking to our local agent Charlie Han, to the information we received prior to purchase, throughout the order process everything was smooth and clear.

The positive experience continued through both the installation and commissioning of the system. We received regular production updates and the installation engineer was very efficient. GEW and PM Trading have just been so easy to work with.”
