Brother Industries, Ltd. (President: Ichiro Sasaki) today announced that it has been selected as one of the top companies in the second "Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders" survey conducted jointly by Nikkei Asia—the English media arm of the Nihon Keizai Shimbun—and the UK's Financial Times, along with the German research firm Statista. The recognition follows Brother's selection as a leading company in the previous year's survey as well.

The survey, targeting companies headquartered in the Asia-Pacific region, investigates the changes in greenhouse gas emissions intensity*1 (in terms of Scopes 1 and 2*2 emissions) relative to a company's revenue from 2016 to 2021. The survey selects the top companies from those with the highest reduction rates.

As part of the Brother Group Environmental Vision 2050, the Brother Group aims to achieve carbon neutrality*3 in all business operations and minimize CO2 emissions from the entire value chain by 2050 so as to contribute toward creating a carbon-free society. Furthermore, a reduction in CO2 emissions is identified as a Materiality in Brother's medium-term business strategy "CS B2024." With the objectives of achieving a 47% reduction in CO2 emissions from FY2015 levels for Scopes 1 and 2 and taking measures to reduce 150,000 tons of CO2 emissions through its own effort for Scope 3, Brother continues to work on energy conservation and generation, the use of CO2-free electricity, improving the energy-saving performance of products, and other initiatives.

The Brother Group remains committed to helping society achieve sustainable development by positively and continuously considering the environmental impact in all aspects of its business operations.

  1. Greenhouse gas emissions per unit of economic activity
  2. Categories of greenhouse gas emission sources;
    Scope 1 refers to direct greenhouse gas emissions by business operators, Scope 2 refers to indirect greenhouse gas emissions resulting from use of electricity, heat, and steam supplied by other entities
  3. Achieve overall zero CO2 emissions from the Brother Group
