Press release: Walmart

Walmart recently announced the grand opening of its first-ever Walmart Pet Services center in Dallas, Georgia – a new dedicated storefront that brings veterinary care and grooming services at low transparent prices  to customers directly where they shop.

More than 66 percent of U.S. households own a pet, according to the American Pet Products Association – and that volume is contributing to large growth within the pet industry, which is expected to reach $277 billion in total spending by 2030. Despite this, many pet owners are feeling the burden of rising costs as pricing in the pet category continues to increase higher than the national inflation rate. With 40 percent of total pet industry revenue driven by pet services, according to Morgan Stanley, Walmart is continuing to expand its pet services offerings to meet this growing demand. Customers rely on Walmart for low prices and increasingly convenience is just as important.

For many, accessing essential pet services like grooming and veterinary care can be costly and disjointed. That’s why Walmart is solving this for its customers with the opening of the first-ever Walmart Pet Services center:

·       Customers in Dallas, Georgia can now access routine veterinary care for dogs and cats (vaccines, wellness exams and minor medical services) and grooming services for dogs  (baths, nail trims, teeth cleaning, ear cleaning and basic hair trims) in a one-stop destination.

·       Walmart plans to use its location in Dallas, Georgia to learn how best to work with its collaborators and optimize services, with the goal of replicating the model in other communities it serves in the future.

·       The Walmart Pet Services center is opening in the same store where Walmart opened the doors to its first Walmart Health center in 2019. Now, customers will be able to conveniently access their family’s basic healthcare solutions in one central location, including the healthcare needs of their furry friends.

Customers across the country can also take advantage of Walmart’s new subscription service, which allows them to schedule automatic deliveries of their favorite frequently purchased items, such as kitty litter or pet food, at a cadence that fits their preference. Based on our pilot testing, the Pet category has been where customers have most eagerly embraced this convenience.

Walmart Pet Services is a key next step in Walmart’s commitment to creating a one-stop destination for all Pet customers’ needs.

The Walmart Pet Services center in Dallas, Georgia will serve as a pilot where the company will learn how best to work with its collaborators and optimize services to deliver on quality, affordability and accessibility. It’s Walmart’s goal to bring the Walmart Pet Services model to other communities in the future.
