January 8, 2024 (press release) –

After a successful 2023 show, Frugalpac is delighted to return to this year’s ProWein in Düsseldorf 10-12 March 2024 to unveil the future of wine retailing with our Frugal Bottle – the world’s first and only commercially available paper bottle for wines and spirits.

A 2023 Institute of Grocery Distribution report found that 33% of all supermarket packaging environmental impacts are from the beer, wine, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks category. To meet the industry’s commitment to halve the environmental impacts of their packaging systems by 2030, will require major changes.

The IGD report said to meet this goal, supermarkets need to increase recycled content, maximise recyclability and decarbonise supply chains.

Our Frugal Bottles are already helping retailers and drinks producers around the world cut carbon emissions by 84% per bottle. Made from 94% recycled paperboard and weighing just 83g before filled, our paper wine bottles are five times lighter than glass, with a carbon footprint six times lower and can be easily recycled again.

So join us in Hall 9 Stand B71 at ProWein 2024 and we will show you what a supermarket shelve will look like with lower carbon packaging.

There will be opportunities to meet some of the 35 brand owners around the world already using our award-winning bottles, you can hear about the benefits of Frugal Bottles directly from our experts.

You’ll also be in the right place to hear about how you can buy your own Frugal Bottle Assembly Machine so you can produce your own paper bottles on site, adding huge value to your business.

Frugalpac CEO Malcolm Waugh said:

“The Institute of Grocery Distribution report is a sobering wake-up call, with a third of the total carbon impact in retail packaging coming from the Beers, Wines and Spirits aisles.

With all major retailers around the world now focusing on carbon reduction, the Frugal Bottle offers a consumer-accepted alternative for brands and retail own label wines and spirits to make an 84% impact on this high carbon category.”

“We had such a great reception at ProWein last year, Frugalpac is going back to show retailers, brands and producers how moving to our Frugal Bottles will not only cut carbon and reduce the environmental packaging impact of wines and spirits but also stand out on shelf with fantastic 360 degree branding opportunities that appeal to consumers.

“Frugalpac’s team and some of our existing customers will be on hand to show how easy and beneficial it is to join our paper bottle revolution. With our Frugal Bottle, people can drink responsibly and sustainably.”
