Jindal Stainless becomes first company to use new direct air cargo operations at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, India, dispatching stainless steel plate samples to Sweden; airport to manage 1,000 tonnes of international cargo each year

Jindal Stainless Limited, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, became the first company to participate in the newly launched direct air cargo operations to and from international destinations at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar. The company dispatched a consignment of 28 kg of hot rolled stainless steel plate samples to Sweden yesterday, the inaugural day. The flag-off ceremony was attended by Hon’ble Minister, MSME Department, Shri Pratap Keshari Deb; Principal Secretary, MSME Department, Shri Saswat Mishra (IAS); Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce and Transport, Smt Usha Padhee (IAS), among other dignitaries.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, Mr Abhyuday Jindal, said, “This development is crucial in bolstering the export potential of Odisha, underscoring its significance in the broader context of economic growth and development of the region. Additionally, it will contribute to generating employment opportunities for the local population. Leveraging the air cargo facilities at the Bhubaneswar airport is a win-win situation for all.”

I thank the local authorities, airport management and all stakeholders involved for their support in making this initiative a reality. The airport aims to manage approximately 1,000 metric tonnes of international cargo each year. With the integration of modern equipment, cargo operations will allow consignments to be directly shipped to various countries.
