DP World has been announced as a “Principal Pathway Partner” for the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference, hosted in Dubai by the UAE Government from November 30 to December 12.

As a Principal Pathway Partner, DP World – a leading end-to-end supply chain solutions provider – will work alongside the COP28 Presidency to advocate for more urgent climate action. This includes leveraging DP World’s scale and influence to bring together the broader industry to develop impactful long-term solutions that support the global climate agenda.

DP World work with key stakeholders – from logistics companies, NGOs, governments and cargo owners -- to showcase new technologies and solutions, and exchange ideas to mitigate and build resilience against climate change, driving the energy transition and promoting environmental stewardship while ensuring continued trade flow worldwide.

DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, said: “We are honoured to announce our partnership with the COP28 Presidency. As a key stakeholder in the global logistics industry, we recognise the impact of our operations on the environment. Our work with COP28 and other industry peers underscores our commitment to combatting climate change and fostering sustainable global trade. It also reinforces our belief in the potential of collective action. There is an urgent need to reshape industries, redefine possibilities, and chart a course towards a more resilient, net-zero future.”

DP World Group Chief Sustainability Officer Maha AlQattan added: “Sustainability is at the heart of all our business decisions, so we can help create real societal and economic change for future generations using trade. Through this partnership with COP28 and our clear roadmap towards net zero, we aim to combine innovation with responsibility and harness the power of logistics to drive positive change on a global scale.”

Decarbonisation is a core focus for DP World, and the business has already committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2040 and net zero carbon by 2050, aligned to the UNFCCC’s Race to Zero and UAE’s 2050 net zero initiative.

At COP27 last year, DP World announced that it had joined the Green Shipping Challenge and committed to investing up to $500 million to cut CO2 emissions by nearly 700,000 tonnes over the next five years. The business has also partnered strategically with the Maersk McKinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping and joined the UN Global Compact’s Think Lab on Just Transition.

In addition, the company has reduced its carbon emissions by electrifying many of its operations across the 75 countries it operates in worldwide; pioneering biofuel use; and continuing to explore other cutting-edge solutions, such as carbon-neutral synthetic natural gas. Recently, the company announced that it cut global carbon emissions by 5 per cent in 2022, with a 4 per cent reduction in energy consumption.

The company’s sustainability strategy, 'Our World, Our Future', is a foundation for these efforts by building sustainability into every aspect of its work. For further information, please visit https://www.dpworld.com/sustainability or contact cop28@dpworld.com.
