Maringá Ferro-Liga, a manganese ferroalloy company, invests in low-carbon products to align with the green economy and begin exporting low-carbon ferrosilicon-manganese alloy made at Itapeva (SP) to a Swedish steelmaker, SSAB, for use in green steel production in Finland. The alloy is known for its resistance and is used in various steel applications. Maringá uses charcoal and renewable energy in the production process, with plans to diversify energy sources with solar and wind power. It aims to reduce CO2 emissions and contaminants in steel production. The company is implementing projects to increase power generation, replace coal, and upgrade alloy furnaces. It isalso transitioning to mechanised, rectangular systems for bio-reducer ovens to capture smoke emissions and generate energy. With these initiatives, Maringá expects environmental benefits, cost reductions, and increased renewable energy use. It is the leading producer of ferroalloys in Brazil and a significant supplier in South America. In 2022, production was 89,000 tons of alloys, with 80% sold domestically and increasing export volumes this year. Maringá's investment plan for 2022-2027 amounts to R$ 633 million, focusing on sustainability and production capacity expansion from 100,000 to 120,000 m tons per year halved ionto ferrosilicon manganese and high carbon ferromanagenese. In 2022 the otuput was 89,000 m tons of both alloys with domestic sales 96,800 m tons. Copyright SABI 2023
