Reps. Doris Matsui, D-Calif., and Larry Bucshon, R-Ind., Jan. 12 introduced a House version of the Mapping America’s Pharmaceutical Supply Act, legislation that would require the Department of Health and Human Services to update its essential medicines list and create a database to help predict vulnerabilities in the U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain.

“The AHA appreciates the efforts of Representatives Matsui and Bucshon to address the chronic and increasing drug shortages hospitals, health systems and patients are facing across the country,” said Lisa Kidder Hrobsky, AHA’s senior vice president, advocacy and political affairs. “The AHA is proud to offer our strong support to this important bipartisan legislation that will strengthen the pharmaceutical supply chain for health care providers and patients and improve access to high-quality care.”

AHA last year voiced support for the Senate bill (S. 2364), sponsored by Sens. Gary Peters, D-Mich., James Lankford, R-Okla., and Mike Braun, R-Ind.
