LOS ANGELES , May 20, 2014 () – Johannesburg-based paper and packaging group Mondi PLC is planning to develop its packaging business, with a focus on emerging markets, specifically that of consumer-related packaging, according to its Annual General Meeting statement published May 14.

The company’s packaging interests currently contribute around 70% of the group’s revenues, according to CEO David Hathorn. Furthermore, emerging markets account for about 51% of Mondi’s revenue by destination and 62% of net operating assets.

Packaging-related segments all saw some growth in 2013, with packaging paper pricing and volumes both showing increases. Fiber packaging margins also recovered despite rising paper prices.

Mondi’s corrugated packaging business in the first quarter of 2013 also saw continued benefits from containerboard price increases from the first quarter of 2012.
