New Delhi: National Textile Corporation Limited, The Government of India has issued the following news release:
Manufacturing of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) has begun at the textile-chemical industrial complex PQS, formed by Brazil’s Petrochemical Company of Pernambuco (PetroquímicaSuape) and Integrated Textile Company of Pernambuco (Citepe).
PTA is the main raw material needed for the production of polyester.
With the start of operations, the PTA plant will be able to meet most of Brazil’s domestic demand, which until now was met entirely through imports.
The PTA plant has an annual production capacity of 640,000 tons.
In addition to PTA, the PQS Complex would also produce PET packaging resin.
The Complex already manufactures polyester textured filament yarn (DTY).
As the PTA plant has become operational, Brazil will stop importing over a billion dollars worth of PTA and PET packaging resin.
The PQS Complex now has one of the largest integrated polyester units in Latin America, featuring the most advanced technologies and production scales comparable to major industrial units operational worldwide.
