A bill introduced into the California State Legislature seeks to ban mobile food and beverage vending within 1,500 feet of elementary and secondary schools from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. when schools are in session, the Sacramento Bee reported Feb. 17.
The bill has food truck operators worried, as banning mobile food units from operating near schools could essentially put food trucks out of business in California by severely limiting their operating space.
The bill still needs to work its way through committees, be passed by both houses of the Legislature and ultimately be signed by the governor.
