Double A (1991) Public Co. Ltd. is close to completing its purchase of the pulp line and biomass power plant at its uncoated woodfree paper mill in Alizay, France, Lesprom Network reported on Jan. 7.
Only the deeds need to be drafted and signed for the sale to close, said Jean Louis Destans, chairman of the general council of France’s Eure region. Agreement has been reached on the selling price and assets needed to restart production, he said.
The success of the investment depends on green energy being produced at the site, using wood and biomass from the Alizay region and residuals from the mill’s pulping process.
The Department of Eure has committed to help Double A with the process of obtaining approvals to revive pulp production at the site, reported Lesprom Network, citing a press release from the company.
Restarting the pulp line would give the Alizay mill’s paper machine a dedicated feedstock supply. The mill produces uncoated woodfree paper, according to Industry Intelligence’s archives.
Five months after buying the paper mill in Alizay last January, Double A restarted the paper machine. By August, it was selling premium quality paper and exporting it to the United Arab Emirates and Eastern Europe by September.
Double A plans to resume pulp production at the Alizay mill in first-half 2015 in an effort to boost its competitive position in Europe and expand its reach into Africa, the Middle East and the Americas, Lesprom Network reported.
