LOS ANGELES , October 31, 2011 () – Barnes & Noble Inc. has scheduled a Nov. 7 media event at which it is expected to introduce a new tablet device that will compete with Inc.'s new Kindle Fire and Apple Inc.'s iPad, The Wall Street Journal reported Oct. 31.

The new tablet is expected to be significantly different from the retailer's Nook Color e-reader.
