MINNEAPOLIS , January 11, 2011 (press release) – Peter Mastic, who joined National Wind as President and Chief Development Officer last September, has been named CEO of the company. He now has overall responsibility for strategic planning, operations management, wind farm development, project finance and support staff. Mastic replaces Leon Steinberg, who has been CEO since 2007. Steinberg will stay on at National Wind as Executive Vice President for a transition period before pursuing other interests. He remains an investor in the company and will continue to serve on its Board of Directors.

Steinberg commented: “Peter joined National Wind three months ago following a national search I initiated and led earlier in the year. Since joining us, Peter has demonstrated a masterful ability to deal with the challenges of the wind industry, and I feel comfortable transitioning out of this role knowing the company is in good hands. His proven success in developing large-scale wind projects across the country will enable National Wind to reach its full potential moving forward.”

Mastic was previously founder and CEO of Third Planet Windpower, LLC, and before that co-founder and Managing Director of Noble Environmental Power, LLC. In his 25 years in the energy industry, Mastic has initiated and managed the development, construction financing or commissioning of more than 20 projects comprising more than five gigawatts (GW) across the United States. Mastic has been responsible for securing numerous power purchase agreements (PPAs) from utilities and has also negotiated financing for a number of large-scale energy projects.

Mastic commented: “I am pleased to be taking the lead of National Wind at a pivotal point in its progress. As a utility-scale community-based wind developer, National Wind is unique in the industry and is well positioned to adapt successfully to future challenges and opportunities.”
